The wall on the left - which remains to this day alongside the A4 Bath Road - gives an impression of the scale of the labour involved in lowering the road to make the gradient less steep.

The photograph is believed to have been taken by Fred Viner, and the postcard published by Viner & Co., Publishers. Bath. The front carries the title "Brislington, Bristol." and the reference number "129". See our notes for more information about this photographer and postcard publisher, and their work in Brislington.
